About the artist
Marc (1966) Graduated as an MSc. in Electrical engineering and made a career in the foods industry. 21 years later having reached the position of Engineering and Technology director at Unilever, he decided to make a switch to photography thereby following his passion.
Realizing that he lacked some of the skills needed to produce the fine-art images he envisaged he went ‘back to school’. He graduated in 2015 as top of the class from the ‘Fotovakschool” in Rotterdam and began to develop his ideas in the fine art. In this his technical background has proven useful in helping him to create his images.
As a photographer Marc creates single frame narratives; tantalising fine-art images that capture the viewer’s attention. The intention of his images is not to be aesthetically pleasing, but rather to touch the viewer and to trigger his/her imagination.
Marc often places the viewer in the position of a voyeur. A witness to a strange situation that was most likely not meant to be seen. The images frequently show an incomplete story or an unexpected twist. Studying the image, it can become apparent that there are references to persons or items outside of the frame, or that there are unexpected elements that raise questions. The viewers are invited to ponder and wonder about what it is they are actually seeing, what it means and eventually to decide on a personal ending to each story.
